Rationale and Flat Plan

This was my Initial idea for my short film, but I decided to not move forward with it, because when I thought of what I wanted to do it was not enough to fill out the entire 5 minutes of short film, as well as I didn’t feel the idea was well thought out or complex enough for me to go forward with it and it did not present a challenge for me. So I changed my idea and went forward with creating a short animated action film, which spawned in to a few different ideas from which I chose the Sci-Fi one, by mixing the genre alongside action, instead of the other Spy/Action/Thriller idea.

EDIT 3/3/12

The Idea that I have chosen to go for is about two aliens who had previously been friends, and how they had become bitter rivals would be seen through a various number of flashbacks to give the audience a bit of background knowledge on them two as well. The short film will be set in a desert, and will have these two aliens fighting each other out of revenge and anger. I have chose to go for this is because of the challenge it presents as well as the excitement that it will lead to after, the completion of the entire product. Also I will be learning on how to create movement through slides and drawing into a entire scene, which I will be able to improve upon if I ever create another cartoon.

EDIT 27/03/12

Brief 2-
  A promotion package for a new film, to include a teaser trailer, together with two of the following three options:
-a website homepage for the film;
-a film magazine front cover, feature the film;
-a poster for the film.

I have chosen to create a trailer instead using my remaining footage, after the technical difficulties that I had faced through losing a couple of my scenes for my short film, which cannot be completed anymore. Through the trailer I will still try to portray the rivalry between the two animated characters as well as the destruction and explosions of the short film in this trailer. I will be using all the conventions of an action film and trailer as a way to convey all of this.

Even through the colours of my scene I will portray the good and evil nature of both my main characters, as well as the sound would evoke an action nature, for the audience to instantly recognize it as well as helping to amplify my scenes a bit more. I will also use a background theme song that has a nice calm but still strong and gives off an action feel from it.Through the colour schemes I will also be portraying the different worlds that I wanted to be present in my short film, to add to the sci-fi element of the trailer, alongside the poster where in the background I have placed a shattered world, to show the destruction that their actions will cause but it is in a dark grey colour to show that behind its destruction may be a dark mystery that the audience will need to find, hence creating an interest in my trailer.

The font of my poster will be in a reflection of a hard metallic one, with broken cracks running through each letter from beginning from the 'R' I have chosen to do this, again in reflection of their battle as well as the dark secret since the audience may be curious of why the title is in such a way.

Through the layout of my poster I have tried to frame the devastated planet through both my characters, so that I stands out without blending in with the background, but through the bright red capes I have tried to keep the concentration of the poster on characters as well, since the poster would be sold through the director and the actors as well as the characters of the animated feature. Also by doing this it will give the audience a clear indication that everything on the poster that is visible has an important role in the film as well as having a dire secret that will be partially visible in the trailer.
